I read the journal entry by the words of Edgar Pearce, a personal experience after viewing the after effects of the Battle of Shiloh. This specific information was portrayed as a quote and/or experience of the Union soldier. It's description helped me visualize the battle and the situation him and other soldiers might've gone through during the war.

From the Autobiography of a Confederate Soldier I extracted the story and description through the eyes of Henry Morton Stanley and his experiences during the bloody Battle of Shiloh. It describes each and every detail, the sights and smells of the battle field. It reveals how death is very evident and real in war. This source helped me understand the gravity of the situation.

A Union Soldier kept a journal of the battle's proccedings and passed it down through generations of his family before it finally was given to the Iowa State Historical Society and made public. This display of Cyrus F. Boyd's writings shows just how dark and devestating the Battle of Shiloh was and the impact it had on him.

I used a few pictures of official newpaper documents from this collection of articles about the Battle of Shiloh after, or as it was happening at Pittsburgh Landing, Tennessee. The newspapers are from a Confederate view point as these articles are written to Southern citizens.

It was all very detailed and helped me get a better understanding of daily life as a soldier at Shiloh and several other battles over the course of the Civil War.

They focus on how they feel based off of what they saw and heard through the bloodshed of war. They describe their experiences in great detail, making it easy to imagine these events happening in your mind.
